Black Orchid 2
Series of Generative Designs
In Aether.matics I wanted to use mathematics as expressive material for painting portraits. Creating work at the intersection of new technologies and traditional art.
To this end I developed a web based painting software in three.js that used simple mathematical algorithms that interacted with eachother to produce complex results.
Circles intersect to produce dots and lines.
Hundreds of scanlines overlay to produce vibrant gradients.
Static areas blend with dynamic simulated animation.
By using these simple mathematical rules which share properties to the ones found in our own reality, within the subjective context of painting, I wanted to draw connections between the natural universe and our own personal experience of it...
How we see patterns in chaos.
How we see faces in patterns.
How we transform the indifferent atoms around us into stories, dreams and meaning.
